Spring has sprung!
It has been an absolutely beautiful spring! Birds are singing, bulbs are blooming and everyone seems to have a bounce in their step! This is a good time to clean out and refresh. Basements and garages are a good place to start. Learning how to throw things out is important. There have been a resurgent of consignment shops in the area, which, if your items are of good quality, would be a good place for some of the clutter. Tag sales are a good form of renew for school kids to tackle, and if done right, can create a good income. Thrift shops are a good drop off spot. Remember, they welcome good quality item and expect them to be clean and presentable. Don't forget to get all your recyclables bundled up and out. Store the winter sports equipment and make way for summer!
To brighten up your home, you can do as little as change your pillows, to out and out changing accessories, mantels, bedspreads and window treatments. Put a nice large vase of daffodils some where that you can see it, along with some tulips in the bedroom. Flowers certainly brighten the mood up!
Enjoy this lovely time of year! |

Design tips
Home is where the hearth is....spring in Vermont is a time to gather around the last of the fires at the fire place and embrace the warm days and chilly nights. Good bye snow - hello birds, flowers, sun! In celebrating the coming of short sleeve weather, lets talk about changing the fire place mantel to reflect the mood.
Mantels are a show case of what your home means to you. To acheive "the look" you are "looking" for, keep in mind that you want it to be pleasing to the eye. The circle method does just that. It works like this; tall objects on the ends and smaller in the middle or visa versa. "The circle" is the imaginary line out lining th objects. For instance, on one end could be a lovely topiary (we found a great supplier with beautiful products) and the other could be a tall vase filled with pussy willows (perfect spring symbol). Fill in the middle with objects you love possibly with color (maybe nice English plates on stands, or some potted flowers). Make if full for abundance, maybe use some spring garland or interesting branches from the back yard. Have fun with it!
Let me know how it works for you. |
